About Ptilothrix deusta (R.Br.) K.L.Wilson
Ptilothrix deusta is a sedge belonging to the Cyperaceae family, native to southeastern Australia. It is the only species in the monotypic genus Ptilothrix. This plant is commonly found growing in wet sandy soils in heathland, and reaches a height of between 30 and 60 centimetres. It was one of many plant species first published by Robert Brown, appearing under the name Carpha deusta in his 1810 work Prodromus Florae Novae Hollandiae et Insulae Van Diemen, with the type notation "(J.) v.v.". In 1994, Karen Wilson reclassified this species into the separate genus Ptilothrix. The genus name Ptilothrix comes from Ancient Greek, and translates to "feather hair". The specific epithet deusta originates from Latin, and means "burnt".
