The northern white-faced owl, with the scientific name Ptilopsis leucotis (Temminck, 1820), is an owl species that belongs to the Strigidae family. The southern white-faced owl, P. granti, was previously classified as part of this species. When the two were grouped together, they were collectively called the white-faced scops-owl. This species lives in a continuous band of habitat across Africa, stretching between the Sahara Desert and the Equator. Its confirmed range includes Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Togo, and Uganda.
