About Pterostylis longifolia R.Br.
Pterostylis longifolia R.Br. is a terrestrial, perennial, deciduous herb that grows from an underground tuber. Non-flowering individuals produce a rosette of three to six linear to lance-shaped leaves. Each leaf in this rosette measures 10โ40 mm (0.4โ2 in) long and 3โ4 mm (0.1โ0.2 in) wide. Flowering plants grow an upright flowering spike 150โ400 mm (6โ20 in) high, which holds up to seven green, partly transparent flowers. The flowering spike bears between five and eight stem leaves, each 30โ90 mm (1โ4 in) long and 3โ5 mm (0.1โ0.2 in) wide. Individual flowers are 12โ14 mm (0.5โ0.6 in) long and 6โ8 mm (0.2โ0.3 in) wide. The lateral sepals of the flower point downwards, end in a tapering tip, and measure 10โ12 mm (0.4โ0.5 in) long by 5โ7 mm (0.2โ0.3 in) wide. The labellum is approximately 5 mm (0.2 in) long and 3 mm (0.1 in) wide. It is pale green, hairy, and marked with a dark stripe running along its mid-line. Flowering takes place between April and September. This species occurs in New South Wales and southern Queensland, where it grows on coasts and tablelands in forest and coastal scrub habitats.
