About Pterocephalus lasiospermus Link
Pterocephalus lasiospermus Link is a shrub that reaches up to one meter in height. Both its grey stems and its simple pale green-grey leaves are covered in hairs. Its inflorescence forms a cushion-like head of pale pink flowers, which sits at the end of a long stem. This species blooms in early summer, which is a later bloom time than that of other species in its native environment. As summer advances, the flower head develops into a round ball of whitish chaffy seeds. This plant is endemic to the Cañadas del Teide depression on Tenerife, as well as the scrub growing in the upper zones of the surrounding pine forest. Before Teide National Park was established, the species was very rare, as livestock grazing caused extensive damage to its populations.
