About Pteris carsei Braggins & Brownsey

Pteris carsei is a medium-large fern, with fronds growing up to 150 cm (59 in) from its rhizome. It can often be recognized by its erect rhizome and the pattern of its laminae. This fern is endemic to New Zealand. Its distribution includes the Three Kings Islands, coastal habitats of the North Island north of Mokau and the Coromandel Peninsula, offshore islands north of the Coromandel Peninsula, and the Kermadec Islands. It grows in open cliff, beachside, and hillside areas, or in forests beneath Kunzea species, such as kanuka. The species is considerably more common on offshore islands than on the mainland of the North Island.
