About Psychotria mariniana (Cham. & Schltdl.) Fosberg

Psychotria mariniana, commonly known as forest wild coffee or kōpiko, is a tree that is endemic to Hawaiʻi. It is classified in the coffee family (Rubiaceae), subfamily Rubioideae. This tree varies in size, and has dark bark, shiny leaves, and oval-shaped orange fruit. A distinct line of glands runs along the underside of the central vein of each leaf; this feature is the origin of its Hawaiian name kōpiko, because the Hawaiian word piko means navel. The name kōpiko is used for all Hawaiian plants in the genus Psychotria.
