About Psidium friedrichsthalianum (O.Berg) Nied.

Psidium friedrichsthalianum, commonly known as Costa Rican guava or cas, is a guava species that originated in Costa Rica. It is also cultivated in Guatemala, Nicaragua, and other Central American countries. In Costa Rica, the fruit is widely known through the beverage called fresco de cas. The fruit is commonly used to make a sour, refreshing drink. It forms the base of fresco de cas: Costa Ricans combine the fruit with sugar and water, and sometimes add cream, to produce this slightly acidic fruit drink. This cas species was first described by Otto Karl Berg in 1893.
