About Pseudoscada erruca (Hewitson, 1855)

Pseudoscada erruca is a South American brush-footed butterfly species belonging to the Godyridina subtribe of the Ithomiini tribe. It was first described in 1855 by William Chapman Hewitson, under the original name Ithomia erruca. The type locality of Pseudoscada erruca is Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The species is also found in other regions of Brazil including Pernambuco, as well as in Argentina. Pseudoscada erruca inhabits humid areas that have permanent water access. A 2009 study that compared the occurrence frequency of Ithomiini species between old-growth tropical forest and nearby fragmented landscapes found that P. erruca occurs more frequently in fragmented landscapes than in undisturbed old-growth tropical forest.
