About Pseudagrion rubriceps Selys, 1876

This is a medium-sized damselfly with bright orange eyes that are greenish on the lower portion. Males can be easily told apart from all other Pseudagrion species by their brilliant reddish-orange face, which is the source of the species' common name. The thorax is olive green on the upper surface and azure blue on the sides, with a narrow mid-dorsal carina and black humeral stripes. The abdomen is blue on the sides, with broad black markings along the dorsum extending to segment 8. Segments 9 and 10 are solid azure blue with no markings, and the anal appendages are black. Females have yellowish green eyes, face, and thorax that follows the same marking pattern as males. Their abdomen has a similar color pattern to males, but is paler. In females, segments 8 and 9 are black with fine apical blue rings, and segment 10 is pale blue. The species is widely distributed across plains and submontane areas, and it breeds in weedy streams and ponds.
