About Prunus glandulosa Torr. & A.Gray
Prunus glandulosa, commonly known as Chinese bush cherry, Chinese plum, and dwarf flowering almond, is a shrub species native to China that has been established in Japan for a long time. This plant is widely used as an ornamental shrub and for producing cut flowers. It grows to around 1.5 meters (4.9 ft) in height, prefers sunny rocky slopes, and is drought tolerant. Its leaves are alternate, pointed, and light green. It produces white or pink flowers that can be single or double, depending on the cultivar, which bloom in spring. Its mature fruits are dark red. This species is susceptible to feeding damage from mice, and is affected by a number of diseases: fire blight, leaf spot, dieback, leaf curl, powdery mildew, root rot, and honey fungus. Known cultivars include 'Alba', which bears single white flowers; 'Alba Plena' (also called 'Alboplena'), which bears double white flowers; 'Lawrence', which bears single white-pink flowers; and 'Rosea Plena' (also called 'Sinensis'), which bears double pink flowers.
