About Proteuxoa sanguinipuncta Guenée, 1852

This moth species, Proteuxoa sanguinipuncta, has a wingspan of approximately 40 millimeters. It can be easily distinguished from other species found in New Zealand by the distinctive crimson spots that cover its forewings. While Proteuxoa sanguinipuncta is native to Australia, it has been recorded in New Zealand since February 2007. Since its first detection there in 2007, the species has become common in grassland habitats of New Zealand's North Island, and has recently been recorded at the northern end of the country's South Island.
