It is found across the northern United States from coast to coast. In the eastern part of its range, it extends south to Mississippi, while in the west it reaches as far south as California. In Canada, it has a scattered distribution, ranging from Nova Scotia to southern Alberta. The wingspan of adult moths of this species is between 11 and 18 millimeters.
