About Prodasineura verticalis (Selys, 1860)
Prodasineura verticalis (Selys, 1860) is a medium-sized damselfly. Individuals have brown eyes capped with black. Hindwings measure approximately 19–20 mm in length, while the abdomen is about 30 mm long. Males of this species are mostly black, with red and yellow stripes on the thorax and small yellow spots on the abdomen. The pterostigma, or wing spot, is diamond-shaped and dark brown in color. The abdomen is black, with small base-dorsal yellow spots on segments 3 through 6; the remaining segments have no markings. Females have similar markings to males, but their thoracic stripes are paler and more yellowish. This damselfly is commonly found along the banks of large ponds and rivers, where it usually perches among emergent water plants. Oviposition occurs on vegetation or submerged roots in shallow running water, while the mating pair remains in tandem. This species is distributed across multiple Asian regions and countries: China (Guangxi), India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia (Peninsular Malaysia), Myanmar, Singapore, and Thailand.
