About Prinsepia utilis Royle

Prinsepia utilis Royle, commonly known as the Himalayan wild cherry or Himalayan cherry prinsepia, is a flowering plant species belonging to the Rosaceae family. It is native to the Himalayan region, ranging from northeast Pakistan to south-central China. In the wild, it typically grows on valley slopes, wastelands, and trailsides at elevations between 1,000 and 2,600 m (3,300 and 8,500 ft). It is a spiny shrub that reaches 1 to 5 m (3 to 16 ft) in height. It produces edible fruit that is especially favored by children; the seeds of the fruit are used to produce cooking oil. It is also planted as a hedge.
