About Primula mistassinica Michx.

Primula mistassinica Michx., commonly called Mistassini primrose, Lake Mistassini primrose, or bird's-eye primrose, is a flowering herb belonging to the genus Primula. The species' specific name refers to Lake Mistassini, located in Quebec, Canada. This plant is native to the northeastern United States and most of Canada. Despite being the most widely distributed species of primrose native to North America, P. mistassinica is classified as rare or imperiled across many parts of its range. Its rarity is most often tied to its strict habitat requirements, especially near the southern end of its distribution. Habitats where this species grows include damp cliffs, marshes, bogs, and the shores of lakes and rivers.
