About Potentilla sterilis (L.) Garcke
Potentilla sterilis (L.) Garcke closely resembles wild woodland strawberry (Fragaria vesca) or cultivated strawberry, but is a smaller overall plant that produces smaller flowers. Unlike strawberry species, this plant does not form fleshy fruit: after its petals fall, no obvious fruit develops. Its petals are typically well separated from each other, rather than overlapping like the petals of Fragaria vesca. Another key distinguishing feature is that the terminal tooth on its leaflets is usually shorter than the adjacent teeth. Its leaves are matte and darker green than those of Fragaria vesca.
