About Potentilla argyrocoma (Rydb.) Jeps.
Potentilla argyrocoma (Rydb.) Jeps. is a small perennial herb. It grows a clump of fuzzy, reddish, naked stems that lie horizontal to the ground, along with a number of upright, tail-like hairy leaves that may curl or droop. The stems range from 10 centimeters (3.9 inches) to 20 centimeters (7.9 inches) long. Each leaf forms a nearly cylindrical strip of tightly overlapping leaflets arranged around a central rachis that can reach up to 8 centimeters (3.1 inches) long. The leaflets are green and covered in a dense coat of shiny silver hairs. Most leaves emerge from the base of the stem; only a few very small leaves may grow higher up the stem. An inflorescence of one or more clusters of glandular flowers forms at the tip of the stem. Each flower usually has five green and red, densely silver-haired, triangular sepals, and five smaller oval or spoon-shaped white petals. The center of the flower holds twenty white stamens with yellow anthers, plus several pistils. The fruit is a tiny, smooth brown achene.
