It has been recorded growing in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas (within the United States), and Sonora, Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Durango, Querétaro, and Guerrero (within Mexico).

Portulaca suffrutescens is a perennial plant with tuberous roots.
