About Poospiza nigrorufa (d'Orbigny & Lafresnaye, 1837)
The black-and-rufous warbling finch, with the scientific name Poospiza nigrorufa, is a bird species that belongs to the tanager family Thraupidae. It is distributed across Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Its natural habitats include subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, subtropical or tropical moist shrubland, swamps, and heavily degraded former forest. This species was previously treated as the same species as the black-and-chestnut warbling finch, Poospiza whitii. The two taxa were separated into distinct species based on molecular genetic and phenotypic evidence.
