About Polytremis lubricans (Herrich-Schäffer, 1869)
This species has the scientific name Polytremis lubricans (Herrich-Schäffer, 1869). In 1878, Frederic Moore published a detailed description of this taxon (then referred to as Hesperia toona), focused on male specimens. Moore notes that male individuals differ from related forms in having slightly more elongated fore wings, hind wings that are more convex along their outer edge, and a less lobed anal angle. On the upper wing surface, the pattern of markings is similar to related forms, but the markings on the fore wing are narrower. The spot located between the median branches of the fore wing is elongated, and extends all the way to the basal angle of these branches. Markings on the hind wing are very small, and the outer marking is crossed by a vein. On the underside of the wings, the color is brownish-ochreous. The base of the fore wing is slightly dusky-ochreous, and the pattern of markings on the underside matches that of the upper surface.
