About Polytremis eltola (Hewitson, 1869)

This species has the scientific name Polytremis eltola (Hewitson, 1869). The upperside of its wings is dark brown. The anterior forewing has eight transparent white spots, plus an additional yellow spot near the inner margin. Among these spots, the three largest are positioned across the middle of the wing, two lie outside these three largest spots, and three sit near the wing apex. The posterior hindwing has three transparent spots. The underside matches the upperside in pattern, but differs in color, being rufous-brown. This species is recorded from Darjeeling, Kumaon (Doherty), Cachar (Wood-Mason and de Niceville), Kangra, and the North-Western Himalayas (Moore), and Sikkim (de Niceville; Elwes). The subspecies Polytremis eltola corbeti Evans, 1937 is found in the Malay Peninsula.
