About Polyporus tuberaster (Jacq. ex Pers.) Fr.

Polyporus tuberaster, commonly called the tuberous polypore or stone fungus, is a fungal species belonging to the genus Polyporus. It is easily recognizable because it grows from a large sclerotium, which can look like buried wood or a potato. Its yellow-brown cap measures 4–15 centimetres (1+1⁄2–6 inches) wide, and ranges in shape from convex to flat, and even funnel-shaped. Its whitish stalks can grow over 10 cm high and 2–4 cm wide. Both the spores and spore print of this species are white. This species is edible, but it is tough unless it is young and thoroughly cooked.
