About Polymixis lichenea Hübner, 1813
Technical description and variation: The wingspan of Polymixis lichenea Hübner, 1813 ranges from 35 to 40 mm. The forewing ranges from dark to light green, with reddish color variation along the inner margin, along the path of the lines, and around the stigmata. The inner and outer lines are grey and double. The submarginal line is pale, and is preceded by rufous wedge-shaped marks. The claviform stigma is small and dark. The orbicular and reniform stigmata are whitish, often dusted with grey, with dark centres and blackish outlines. The fringe is green. The hindwing of the male is white, while the hindwing of the female is light or dark grey, with a grey discal spot and an outer line, and sometimes also a submarginal line. The form viridicincta Frr. has a ground colour that is grey tinged with olive, a generally darker olive central fascia, and all red tints are replaced by dark green. The form tephra Geyer is a paler grey form where the green tints are also obsolete. The form aetnea Turati, collected from Sicily, is blackish, with distinct markings on the forewing.
