About Polygonella robusta (Small) G.L.Nesom & V.M.Bates

Polygonella robusta (Small) G.L.Nesom & V.M.Bates, also known by the synonym Polygonum nesomii, is a shrubby perennial flowering plant belonging to the Polygonaceae (buckwheat) family. It is endemic to the U.S. state of Florida, where it grows as a member of the sandhill plant community. Its common names are largeflower jointweed and sandhill wireweed. This species produces an abundance of flowers, each surrounded by papery bracts that vary in color from white and light pink to deep rose. Flowering typically occurs in October, and after this process finishes, the plant retains a rosette of basal foliage throughout the winter.
