About Polychrysia moneta (Fabricius, 1787)
This technical description covers the physical traits and variation of Polychrysia moneta. The wingspan of this species ranges from 32 to 37 mm. The forewings are pale golden, with diffuse brown coloring across their median area and are sprinkled with black scales; all veins are brown. The median shade is noticeably thick and dark brown, and angled at its center. The lines on the forewing are brown and double; the inner line angles sharply at the subcostal, and curves inward below the middle of the wing; the outer line is lunulate and dentate. The basal area of the forewing is marked with flakes of golden scales. A pale golden apical blotch is present, cut and edged below by the brown submarginal line, which is rarely unmarked below the middle of the wing. The orbicular stigma is large, oblique, and horseshoe-shaped, with a broad silvery outline and a center of gold and brown; it coalesces with a similar but inverted mark on vein 2. The reniform stigma is barely distinguishable. The hindwing is shiny fuscous, with a pale fringe.
