About Polycauliona bolacina (Tuck.) Arup, Frödén & Søchting
Polycauliona bolacina (Tuck.) Arup, Frödén & Søchting has a yellow-orange thallus that often has a somewhat waxy texture. The thallus is structured primarily from thick squamules or convex areoles, which are either scattered or positioned close together. These squamules or areoles can grow up to 2 mm across, and are slightly lobed. The apothecia, the species' fruiting bodies, measure between 0.7 and 2 mm in diameter, featuring orange disks with slightly paler surrounding margins. The tissues of the apothecia, including the exciple and cortex, are made up of elongated cells arranged in an irregular pattern. Few crystals are present within the medulla. The ascospores of Polycauliona bolacina are 12.5–17.5 μm long and 5.5–8.5 μm wide, with a septum that is 3–5.2 μm thick.
