Polistes lanio (Fabricius, 1775) is a species of paper wasp. It belongs to the subgenus Polistes (Aphanilopterus), and is one of several species in this subgenus commonly called jack Spaniard wasps. This species is distributed across the whole of South America, and is also found on the island of Trinidad.
