About Pogonocherus hispidus (Linnaeus, 1758)

Pogonocherus hispidus is a species of beetle that belongs to the family Cerambycidae. It was first described by Carl Linnaeus in 1758, and was originally classified under the genus Cerambyx. This beetle has a wide distribution across Europe and North Africa. It includes the recognized varietas Pogonocherus hispidus var. rufescens. P. hispidus feeds on five plant species: Cornus sanguinea, Corylus avellana, Ilex aquifolium, Hedera helix, and Euonymus europaeus. It acts as a host for multiple species of parasitoid wasps, which are Dolichomitus agnoscendus, Eurytoma morio, Ephialtes manifestator, Lestricus secalis, and Cenocoelius aartseni. Adult individuals of this species measure between 4 and 6 millimeters (0.16 and 0.24 inches) in length.
