About Podolobium scandens (Sm.) DC.
Podolobium scandens, commonly known as netted shaggy-pea, is a low, spreading, prostrate shrub. Its branches can sometimes reach up to 60 cm (24 inches) in length. Its leaves are mostly arranged oppositely, and range in shape from oval to egg-shaped to elliptic. The leaves measure 1โ7 cm (0.39โ2.76 in) long and 5โ25 mm (0.20โ0.98 in) wide, with more or less finely scalloped margins. The upper leaf surface is dark green, shiny, and veined, while the lower surface is paler with occasional hairs. The leaf apex may be sharp, rounded, or notched. The flowers of Podolobium scandens are borne in racemes in leaf axils or at the ends of branches. The corolla is about 10 mm (0.39 in) long, and is orange or yellow with brownish-red markings. Flowering occurs from spring to summer. The fruit is an egg-shaped pod 10โ15 mm (0.39โ0.59 in) long, covered in soft, short hairs. This species grows in rocky clay soils in sclerophyll forests, found on ranges and in coastal areas north of Bodalla in New South Wales.
