About Poa flabellata (Lam.) Raspail

Poa flabellata (Lam.) Raspail, commonly called tussac grass or simply tussac, is a species of tussock grass. It is native to Patagonia, the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and other South Atlantic islands. There are two isolated herbarium records from the French Muséum national d'histoire naturelle that document the species occurring on Île Amsterdam in the Indian Ocean. In 1844, it was introduced to Shetland, Scotland to be used for basket making. It may also have been introduced as a source of fodder, because it can grow in hostile growing conditions. This grass grows in dense clumps that typically reach around 2 metres (6 ft 7 in) in height, though individual clumps can grow much taller. It grows on wet coastal land, and it is a dominant landscape feature across much of its growing area.
