Poa alsodes A.Gray plants grow to heights between 0.3 and 1.5 meters. Their leaves are hairy, mostly flat, and thin, measuring 0.5 to 5 millimeters in thickness, with a boat-shaped tip. Lower basal leaves are floppy. This species can be confused with Poa saltuensis and Poa trivialis. It grows in shaded or partially shaded locations with average to wet soil, including wooded areas, thickets, floodplains, seeps, riverbanks, and swamps. It is native to the North American continent. In the United States, it occurs in the New England region (Maine, Vermont, Connecticut, and New Hampshire), as well as New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. In Canada, it is found in provinces including Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia.
