About Plusia putnami Grote, 1873

Plusia putnami, commonly known as Lempke's gold spot or Putnam's looper moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Noctuidae. This species occurs in the Palearctic realm, ranging from Japan and eastern Siberia west to Fennoscandia, Great Britain, and France. In North America, its distribution extends from Newfoundland and Labrador to central Alaska and the interior of British Columbia, stretching south to Pennsylvania, Washington, and north-eastern California; in the Rocky Mountains, it reaches as far south as Utah and Colorado. Differences in wing pattern between Plusia putnami and the related species Plusia festucae are not consistent. To tell these two species apart, genitalic dissection is required. The wingspan of Plusia putnami measures 32–42 mm.
