About Plumbago indica L.

Plumbago indica, commonly known as Indian leadwort, scarlet leadwort, or whorled plantain, is a flowering plant species belonging to the family Plumbaginaceae. It is native to Southeast Asia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Yunnan, a region in southern China. This spreading evergreen shrub grows to 2 m (7 ft) tall and 1 m (3 ft) wide, and bears oval-shaped leaves. In winter, it produces racemes of deep pink or scarlet flowers. Plumbago indica is cultivated as an ornamental plant. It requires a minimum temperature of 7 °C (45 °F), and grows best in subtropical or warm-temperate climates; in cool climates, it is typically grown in a greenhouse. This species has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
