About Plicosepalus acaciae (Zucc.) Wiens & Polhill

Plicosepalus acaciae (Zucc.) Wiens & Polhill, also known by its synonym Loranthus acaciae and common name acacia strap flower, is a hemiparasitic flowering plant species that belongs to the mistletoe family Loranthaceae. This species is native to northeastern Africa, the Levant, and the Arabian Peninsula. As indicated by both its common and scientific names, Plicosepalus acaciae parasitizes acacias, specifically Vachellia tortilis subsp. raddiana (formerly classified as Acacia raddiana) and Vachellia tortilis subsp. tortilis (formerly classified as Acacia tortilis). Its seeds are dispersed by the white-spectacled bulbul, a bird species with the scientific name Pycnonotus xanthopygos.
