Female and Juvenile Appearance

Females and juvenile Platysaurus orientalis have a black back marked with white stripes, and a white belly.

Adult Male Appearance

Adult males have a green body, with a tail that is orange or red on the upper surface and yellow on the underside.

Size Measurements

For adults, the typical snout-to-vent length (SVL) ranges from 7.0–7.5 cm (2.8–3.0 in), and the longest recorded SVL for the species is 9.0 cm (3.5 in).

Habitat Range

This species, commonly called the Sekukhune flat lizard, inhabits a small area of savannah within the Sekhukhuneland natural region of South Africa, and its range includes the Mpumalanga Escarpment.

Reproduction

For reproduction, female Sekukhune flat lizards lay two eggs in rock cracks during early summer.
