About Platycerium bifurcatum (Cav.) C.Chr.

Platycerium bifurcatum is a bracket epiphyte that grows in and near rainforests. It reaches 90 cm (35 in) tall and 80 cm (31 in) wide. It produces two types of fronds: heart-shaped sterile fronds that are 12–45 cm (5–18 in) long, and arching, grey-green fertile fronds that are strap-shaped, forked, and can grow up to 90 cm (35 in) long. This species is cultivated as an ornamental plant for gardens. It requires a minimum temperature of 5 °C (41 °F). In temperate regions, it can be grown outdoors in sheltered sites, and is otherwise grown as a houseplant. It has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
