About Platanthera tescamnis Sheviak & W.F.Jenn.
Platanthera tescamnis Sheviak & W.F.Jenn., commonly called the intermountain bog orchid or yellow rein orchid, is an orchid species that was formally described in 2006. This plant was already well-known to botanists before its formal description, but it had been consistently misidentified in previous studies. It is native to the Great Basin and Colorado Plateau regions of the western United States, occurring in the states of Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and California. In this range, it grows in warmer, drier habitats compared to most other closely related orchids. Platanthera tescamnis grows a slender, erect flowering stem that can reach over one meter (3 feet 3 inches) in height. Several leaves grow around the base of the stem; these leaves are lance-shaped to oval, and can measure up to 29 centimeters (11 inches) long by 5 centimeters (2 inches) wide. Its inflorescence is a dense spike holding many small yellow-green flowers.
