About Platanthera orbiculata var. macrophylla (Goldie) Luer
Platanthera orbiculata, commonly called the round-leaved orchid or lesser roundleaved orchid, is an orchid species native to forested regions of North America. It is widely distributed across most of Canada, as well as parts of the United States including Alaska, New England, the Appalachian Mountains, the Great Lakes Region, the Rocky Mountains, the Black Hills and the northern Cascades. Platanthera orbiculata grows in moist to mesic, shaded forest locations. Individual plants produce two large, nearly round leaves that lie flat against the ground, along with a vertical flowering stalk that holds a spike of small, white flowers.
