About Platanthera orbiculata (Pursh) Lindl.

Platanthera orbiculata (Pursh) Lindl., commonly called the round-leaved orchid or lesser roundleaved orchid, is an orchid species native to forested regions of North America. It is widely distributed across most of Canada and occurs in several parts of the United States, including Alaska, New England, the Appalachian Mountains, the Great Lakes Region, the Rocky Mountains, the Black Hills, and the northern Cascades. This orchid grows in moist to mesic, shaded sites within forests. Individual plants produce two large, nearly round leaves that rest flat against the ground, along with an upright flowering stalk that holds a spike of small, white flowers.
