About Plantago cretica L.

Plantago cretica L. is a densely tufted annual tumbleweed. Its leaves grow in a basal rosette; they are entire, narrow-linear, woolly, and upright, reaching up to 15 cm long. Its inflorescences and short flowering stalks are densely covered in creamy to brown hairs. After flowering, these structures curl downwards to form a dense mass at the base of the plant. This species flowers from March to May. It grows in dry, sandy, and rocky soils. It is a Mediterranean species native to Greece (including the Aegean islands and Crete), Cyprus, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, and Turkey, and it has been introduced to Australia.
