About Plagiobothrys chorisianus (Cham.) I.M.Johnst.
Plagiobothrys chorisianus is a species of flowering plant in the borage family, commonly called artist's popcornflower. It is endemic to California, growing in and around the San Francisco Bay Area and along parts of the coastline to the south. It inhabits chaparral, coastal scrub, and grassland habitats. It is an annual herb with a spreading or erect stem that ranges from 10 to 40 centimeters, which is 4 to 16 inches, long. The leaves growing along the stem are 3 to 7 centimeters, which is 1 1/4 to 2 3/4 inches, long, and covered in rough hairs. Its inflorescence is made up of a sequence of tiny flowers, each borne on a pedicel that can reach up to one centimeter, or 1/2 inch, in length. Each five-lobed white flower is one half centimeter, or 2/3 inch, wide, and has white to bright yellow appendages at its center. This species is sometimes split into multiple varieties.
