About Pituophis deppei (Duméril, 1853)

Dorsally, Pituophis deppei is yellowish tan, with a series of large, dark brown to black quadrangular blotches. It has smaller dark spots along its sides. Ventrally, the snake is yellowish, with squarish brown spots. Adult P. deppei can reach a total length of 1.69 meters (5.5 feet), which includes an 18 cm (7.1 in) tail. This species is found in the Mexican states of Aguascalientes, Coahuila, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Mexico, Morelos, Nayarit, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, Sonora, and Tamaulipas. Its preferred natural habitats are forest, shrubland, and grassland, but it can also be found in agricultural, suburban, and urban areas. Pituophis deppei reproduces via oviparity, meaning it lays eggs.
