Pitcairnia heterophylla is a plant species that belongs to the genus Pitcairnia. It is native to northern South America (including Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela), Central America, and central and southern Mexico. A German scientist first found this species on the top of the Rock of Guatapé. Pitcairnia × daiseyana is a natural hybrid between P. heterophylla and P. pungens.
