About Piniphila bifasciana (Haworth, 1811)
Piniphila bifasciana (Haworth, 1811) is a moth species belonging to the family Tortricidae. Its distribution ranges across Europe, extending through the Palearctic region to Japan. This moth has a wingspan of 12 to 16 mm. The forewings have a slightly curved leading edge (costa). The base color of the forewings is silvery-whitish, marked with pale greyish-ochreous stripes (striae) that flow together into the disc toward the back of the wing. The costa is marked with blackish coloring. The basal patch of the forewing has an almost straight edge. The central fascia is evenly wide, with a backward indent below the middle, and there is a thin terminal streak on the forewing. All of these markings are pale greyish-ochreous mixed with pale silver grey, and speckled with black. The hindwings are light grey. Adult Piniphila bifasciana fly from June to July, with timing varying by location. The larvae of this species feed on Pinus sylvestris and Pinus pinaster.
