About Pilosocereus alensis (F.A.C.Weber ex Rol.-Goss.) Byles & G.D.Rowley
Pilosocereus alensis, commonly known as the Sonoran old man cactus, is a species of cactus that is native to Western Mexico, where it occurs from Sonora in the north south to Jalisco. The hairs on this cactus function to protect the plant's flower buds. Its flowers open at night during June, release an ammonia-like odor, and attract bats to carry out pollination. The cactus produces juicy fruit that is pleasant to eat.
