About Pilosella lactucella (Wallr.) P.D.Sell & C.West

Pilosella lactucella, with the synonym Hieracium lactucella and the common name European hawkweed, is a perennial plant species in the family Asteraceae. It grows in Europe, the US state of New York, and the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. This plant reaches a height of 9โ€“20 centimetres (3.5โ€“7.9 in), and its stems are between 1 and 2 millimetres (0.039โ€“0.079 in) wide. It has spatula-shaped leaves that measure 5โ€“8 centimetres (2.0โ€“3.1 in) long. Flowers bloom from May to July, and their flower heads are 2โ€“5 centimetres (0.79โ€“1.97 in) tall. Carl Linnaeus once described this species as Hieracium auricula and Pilosella auricula, before it was recategorized under its current name by A. E. Roland and M. Zinck in 1998.
