About Pilosella lactucella (Wallr.) P.D.Sell & C.West
Pilosella lactucella, with the synonym Hieracium lactucella and the common name European hawkweed, is a perennial plant species in the family Asteraceae. It grows in Europe, the US state of New York, and the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. This plant reaches a height of 9โ20 centimetres (3.5โ7.9 in), and its stems are between 1 and 2 millimetres (0.039โ0.079 in) wide. It has spatula-shaped leaves that measure 5โ8 centimetres (2.0โ3.1 in) long. Flowers bloom from May to July, and their flower heads are 2โ5 centimetres (0.79โ1.97 in) tall. Carl Linnaeus once described this species as Hieracium auricula and Pilosella auricula, before it was recategorized under its current name by A. E. Roland and M. Zinck in 1998.
