About Pilea fontana (Lunell) Rydb.

Pilea fontana, commonly known as lesser clearweed, is an herbaceous plant. It is very similar to Pilea pumila, and both species share an almost identical range that covers most of North America east of the Rocky Mountains. The two species can be distinguished by the appearance of their mature achenes. This plant’s bloom season lasts from July to September, and it can be found throughout the Northeastern United States and Canada. Its fruit is flattened and teardrop-shaped, growing up to 1/6 of an inch long, with a width that is 75 to 85 percent of its length.
