About Pigea floribunda (Lindl.) Lindl.
Pigea floribunda (Lindl.) Lindl., commonly known as shrub violet, is a plant species in the Violaceae family. It was first described as Pigea floribunda by John Lindley in 1838, then transferred to the genus Hybanthus as Hybanthus floribundus by Ferdinand von Mueller in 1876. Most Australian authorities accept the name Hybanthus floribundus, but both Plants of the World Online and VicFlora recognize Pigea floribunda as the accepted name. This species is a perennial shrub that grows between 15 cm and 2 m in height. It has four subspecies: three have restricted distributions within Western Australia, and the fourth is widespread. It is native to southern Western Australia, southern South Australia, Victoria, and southern New South Wales. Within Western Australia, it occurs in the following IBRA regions: Avon Wheatbelt, Coolgardie, Esperance Plains, Geraldton Sandplains, Great Victoria Desert, Jarrah Forest, Mallee, Murchison, Swan Coastal Plain, and Yalgoo.
