About Pierella hortona (Hewitson, 1854)

Pierella hortona, commonly known as the white-barred lady slipper, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Nymphalidae. This species is found east of the Andes in Ecuador, Brazil, Peru, and Bolivia. It inhabits rainforests and cloud forests at altitudes ranging from 100 to 1600 m. The larvae of Pierella hortona feed on Heliconia species, and may also feed on Calathea species.
