About Picconia azorica (Tutin) Knobl.
Picconia azorica (Tutin) Knobl. is an evergreen woody plant species. It occurs on all Azorean islands except Graciosa, where it usually grows in coastal and medium-altitude forests, ranging from sea level up to approximately 700 m (2,300 ft) in elevation. Its leaves are opposite, have entire margins, and are shaped either lanceolate or ovate. This species flowers from March through July, and produces small white flowers arranged in axillary clusters. Its fruits are fleshy dark blue drupes, roughly 1.5 centimetres (0.59 in) long. Like olive trees, Picconia azorica belongs to the Oleaceae family, and its fruits resemble those of olive trees.
